While we have just moved here and certainly don't have any real perspective on this issue, it would seem that there will be demand for the farmer's market regardless of where it's actually located. If most people associate the Freighthouse and the farmer's market, and this actually matters in the eyes of the community, it would appear that maybe then the city should have an interest in subsidizing the relationship. If not, the farmer's market should find another venue...people will still come. I also know that our old farmer's market(http://www.downtownlawrence.com/farmersmarket.html) WAS held in a parking lot and WAS only open from May to November. It was great, drew a lot of local producers, and was absolutely packed on Saturdays.

Lansing, my hometown, has a huge "City Market" building who's stalls have been slowly taken over by flowers and crafts. Since the egg-man and the guy with all the great apples left it hasn't recovered.

No produce, no revolution.

Ypsilanti has much to learn from Lawrence's indy market. What's the population like there? In ypsi proper we have approx 22k.
