Police impersonator arrested
I only saw part of this on WDIV news last night, but nothing is posted online. A man impersonating a police officer robbed a family in Hamtramck and was subsequently chased and apprehended by Hamtramck Police. Footage of an inoperable-looking gun was shown, but I am not sure how it was involved. Detective Szymanski would still like to talk to the victims of the robbery.

I wish someone at the police department had an e-mail address so I could give it to you, but the non-emergency number for the Hamtramck PD is 313-876-7800. Please call them if you have information.

Sounds like the HPD did a great job getting the robber, when listening to that tape!

Agreed Tom. That's what a real police chase sounds like.

True Steven, that was real chase. We heard the engine like you said and heard the voice change on the radio and heard the cops out of breath on the radio etc. They didn't sound slurred, delayed and were able to pronounce the streets they were on. Big contrast from Frederick's "chase" But I'm sure the chief would have us believe that all officers sound drunk during chases if that'd cover up for his loyal disciple, of course it wouldn't be believable, but Doyle would say it all like the gospil.

on 12-27-05 Sandra Ratliff requested someone contact her regarding the guy HAPD arrested for imperonating a police officer. I can be reached at 313-876-7827 or email mszymanski6@sbcglobal.net. I would rather you call because this is my personal email, not a department email. thanks Mike

Thanks for leaving a comment, Mike. I sent Sanda an e-mail with your information just in case she doesn't make it back here.

Good to see a detective teaming up with the Star! Maybe this is the start of something beautiful! That'd be great if the Star helped match up a witness to a police detective to solve this crime!

I'd run "Most wanted" photos in the sidebar. Does anyone know if HAPD have a community-relations officer? Who does the neighborhood watch interface with?

Good idea Steven. I wouldn't know. Community policing is not encouraged in there. Maybe contact the chief so that no one gets fired for being involved in the community again. If not the chief, maybe contact Det. Szymanski?

We don't want to get anyone in trouble for trying to build ties with the community.
I think it would be really useful if the police department had a website with an RSS feed and/or a mailing list. I am out on foot a lot and I would like to know who the police are looking for.
