First Night in Hamtramck
We closed on our place yesterday. The title company is way up in the northern suburbs so we stuffed our cars with some loose junk from our apartment and the new futon, then headed out.
The seller brought us a photo of the place from 1955: the year they bought it. She even had the service manual for the boiler, which ought to come in handy. Closing was quick and easy thanks to Jeanette from The Bank of Ann Arbor.
We arrived in Hamtramck in the afternoon and walked up to Salvador Deli for lunch. The weather started to get a little dicey on the way home but it's not far.
I found a couple of snow shovels, probably from the Nixon administration, and cleared the sidewalks while Hillary worked on the old-man smell. Before long it was time for dinner. With an empty fridge we opted for dinner at Maine Street on Jos. Campau. We noticed that not only do the ambulance service and Hamtramck PD eat there, some of Detroit's finest even came through to get takeout.
Last night we fired up the shortwave receiver they'd left for us and went through all the random things left in drawers and closets. Aside from the old books and papers, Hillary found the most interesting items: a rusty sword made in India, a huge hunting knife, and an extremely well made blackjack flat sap. Looks like the old man was ready for trouble.
