June photos

Our neighbor has been working hard on his art show, repainting the rockets and rearranging the pinwheels. Genie's Wienies is becoming Hamtramck EASTERN Cafe.

Follow up:

Beirut Hair Salon is now Salon 412. Tri-state TaeKwon Do moved into the spaces that were last known as Lenore's Resale and Al Fanous restaurant.

I heard that the inside of the "Gates of Columbus Hall" are being completely renovated. Work continues at Holbrook Cafe, a.k.a. Polish American Century Club.

A storefront across from Video 22 on Joseph Campau is condemned and smells faintly of smoke damage.

Joy's Collection has closed. A clothing store apparently named "Open".

The yoga suite. Rumors that Thai Bangkok would close at the end of the month were true.

The Octopus at Hamtramck Coney Island. Pro Discount Dollar Plus Beauty is now Good Price Discount.

Immaculate Conception has been doing a lot of work on their grounds as of late, planting new trees and erecting new signs. The latest to arrive is the large stone, which would probably be self explanatory if I could read Ukrainian. The new Department of Social Services offices rises on the former site of Woody Pontiac.

Great pics, Hillary! We are eager to try out the Eastern Cafe.

I took a picture of the *window art at Hamtramck Coney Island too: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2452/3620251362_e5696e6401_o.jpg

*Note that it is a septapus! (Lost an arm in battle, maybe?)

Thai Bangkok was not too big of a surprise. Their quality just kept on slipping. Here's hoping another Thai restaurant steps into its place. (I need my Thai food!)

"Good price discount store"

so discount discount store?

what do they sell there anyway? its hard to tell from the picture, whatever it is it must be very very inexpensive, lol.

They should open up the new Thai restaurant by the Tae Kwon do, keep the asian theme going.

Who is this "they" everybody's always talking about? :D

"They" is a godlike entity capable of miracles on demand and is infallible.

"they should put a sign here"
"they say red meat causes cancer"
"they say the sun will burn out soon"
"they should make a movie about that"
"they should find osama at all costs"

So you see kiddies, whenever you need a source to justify an action or to start a conversation, "they" will never let you down.

I get "They" confused with "Them" and subsequently imagine giant ants opening a thai restaurant.

Pro Discount has everything I've ever set out to look for... canning jar lids and Sure-Jell, dish soap, toothpaste, yarn... everything!

Looking closer though, maybe the store in the photo is the one that usually has a big rig hanging on the gates? They look so similar.

Dollar Plus Beauty is right. Thanks! I've never been in there, but I hear it is pretty much the same as Pro Discount.

Just an FYI - The Thai restaurant, Thai Bangkok, closed because the owners moved to Wisconsin; before closing they tried to find new owners. It sure would be nice to have a thai place - I too need my thai food!

Thai Bangkok was a popular place for vegetarians and could be a really good business for someone who wants to start a restaurant. All the equipment and fixtures can be purchased for $15,000, and the lease rate on the current building is ~$1000 per month.

$1000 per month to rent eh? so thats about $33 a day. If u can make a profit of $60 a day or more its worth it.

shame u and steve could open a vegetarian thai restaurant you seem to know a lot about green eating :)
