I see the Cherry's have moved!!!!

I was just looking for your old blog and arrived here.

I moved to Clawson about a year and half ago, and about 4 months ago went online fully with my own "real" domain (www.chetlyzarko.com). How's Hamtramck treating you? Having had a Polish grandfather, I'm sure the Paczki are treating you well.

Regardless, I'm adding a cross link to your guys on my blog and wouldn't mind a recip....

All the places are good for those fattening but, excellent treats! Whoever has the shortest line at the time is the answer to which place to go to!

Very true, Tom. Last year we ordered our paczki from our neighborhood bakery, New Deluxe, thinking the crowd would be on Jos Campau, but when we went to pick them up, three news crews were there.

JD - There has to be polka somewhere. Usually, most of the events in town are advertised in the papers only 1 or 2 weeks in advance. The only thing I know for sure is that the 6th Annual Paczki Eating Contest will be at the Knights of Columbus at 12 noon.

Only four choices of bakeries in Hamtramck for Pazcki? Hard to believe.

There are a few more, but only four were nominated for the poll. Two others are posted but you have to click "Read More" to see them. I'll add to the list if others advertise in the papers.

I think most of the paczki come out of those six bakeries but are sold all around town. Last year I saw them in party stores and gas stations but they go quickly.

Some of the orders going out of New Deluxe must be commercial. The other day I was in there and they took an order for 40 dozen without flinching.

Nothing commercial at New Deluxe, just around the clock production beginning roughly 2-3 days before paczki day. You should go over there at any time on the days leading up to that Tuesday and you'll see the madness. Usually the bakers leave the side door on Eldridge open.

I have to admit I'm partial to New Deluxe. I think I could tag my house with a paczki from their front door.

Hey chris, we ought to have a paczk-throwing contest. Only with dropped paczki of course.

Sounds like a plan, Steven. You'd think that after all these years the bakeries would have a pretty good system in place that results in zero loss of product.

i'll be checking back then for any info on any polka bands/bar parties. i have a group of about 10 people who nominated me to find out what is going on. i live out in the subburbs so i don't get the local papers. the 'citizen' does not have an online addition so i'm hoping you guys can list any bands or happenings for that day. we won't be able to come out until the mid afternoon (2-3:00pm) so i know the paczki eatting contest is out. we had a great time at the new dodge lounge last year with the kielbasa kings. i went to their web site and it has not been updated in a long time? maybe they broke up... anyhow, please keep us informed! :-)

Mmm...raspberry. I've always preferred New Deluxe paczki. Family Donut Shop had the most varieties, but is Bavarian Cream really necessary?

Comment from: Hillary [Member] Email · http://hamtramckstar.com
Doesn't Bavarian Cream make it a Bismark?

Key lime is the flavor I don't understand.

The fun starts at New Dodge at 7:00 a.m. with Joetown MCing...the entertainment consists of:The Polish Muslims, Various Artists (band name....an 80's review), and the ever famous Misty Blues (polka band). So sorry, but the Kielbasa Kings were not available. The menu stays the same: kielbasa and kapusta, pierogi, and golombki, with many paczki on site.....all I can say is"BE THERE OR BE SQUARE"......check out our website.

Hillary-- key lime paczki covered with glaze? Doesn't that clash?

I don't understand the prune flavor. I know it's traditional, but ...blah. I just want a raspberry one and a pineapple one.

All the paczkis are great! I have never had a prune paczki, but will try one this year, along with many other flavors!

I have only eaten one paczki in my life, so I don't know about the key lime.

The advertised flavors at New Deluxe in the paper are lemon, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, apple, plain, buttercream, custard, apricot, and prune (plewa).

What do you suppose they mean by "plain"?

If I remember correctly, it is just the donut with no filling.

Sereena X: New Deluxe has pineapple listed on the window, just not in the papers.

New Palace has rose hips flavored paczki this year.

Is there a bakery that would overnight a dozen paczkis? Here in florida we're so close to Louisiana, all that's available are king cakes and other Mardi Gras type food!

Lived in Florida years ago. And used to go to Publix Supermarket for packi. One year someone goofed! Got home to find that the assortment box had chocolate covered prune packi!

I was born and raised in Hamtramck a long time ago. My colleagues here in Kansas City have been treated to Paczki's two years in a row. I buy them at the local super market and they are passable but they are not like the ones I used to get as kid at Oaza Bakery!!!

On a recent visit to Hamtramck,I must say I was impressed with the community as a whole. It had been almost 20 years since I last visited and I worried that it had changed too much. As a result of my visit I chose to research some of the musicians I had come to know during my past visits, and I was saddened to hear of the passing of Paul Fudalla (a fine musician that made polka music enjoyable for a much younger crowd than one would expect.).
As many have noticed, polka music and its following, as well as young musicians has declined over the years. We need to stop the loss of younger polka fans before it ends all together locally. As a musical son of Hamtramck, Paul Fudalla inspired many and seemed to energize the polka scene everywhere he performed. It would be nice to see some sort of tribute in memoriam of this fine young man taken before his time.
Perhaps this would inspire some future musicians to stop and listen before it is too late.

Yackie1 There is indeed a large Polka folowing in Michigan. Last year I heard about a Polka throw down at a club here in Hamtramck called Capos. I guess back in the day Capos was "the" place to polka in town. I can't recall what the name of the club was then but it was a big stop on the Polka Circuit. any way the throw down was packed I had no idea it was so popular. Here is a link for you as well http://polkausa.com/index.html

Where online can you order paczki?

Dee & Zybura:

I don't think any of the Hamtramck bakeries have online ordering options. See the listing at the top of this entry and simply call in your order before it's too late. I don't think any of the bakeries offer delivery service on the paczkis but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

(New Deluxe has been/is/and always will be my choice!)
