Yeah, I'm thankful that we settled on a house that needs hardly any maintenance at all. The tax returns should help us out alot. The sellers did a tremendous amount of work on it and we're getting it for almost $10K less than appraisal because they need to move. More than we can afford, but that's what housemates and 5-year plans are for... It's in West Willow and I've heard good and bad about the neighborhood, but we're not worried. We're eager to get into Ypsi Twsp. as they are clearly sitting in a better position than the City.

On the other hand... what do you expect from a house that you could charge to your Mastercard?

Seriously, though, I bought a house that I couldn't really comfortably afford, and I had some serious buyer's remorse right afterward, but it has totally paid off. ALL of your mortgage interest is tax deductable, and almost your entire payment for the first 5-10 years is interest -- for me, that meant around $4K more in my pocket a year!! It's a hassle to have to deal with the maintenance and projects that I am constantly working on, but in all, I'm really glad I did it. I don't know what appreciation is like in Ypsi, but my house has also increased in value much, much, much more than if I'd invested the same amount of money.

Yes, the garage door doubling as a back door was exquisite! And let's not forget the enormous colony of bees in the 'potting shed' as they so nicely put it!

Ha! We were in there yesterday too. They were very much alike in that someone incorporated the garage by building a room between it and the back of the house. In the basement, you missed some really expensive duct work, a large pantry area, and a beam that looks to be slowly rotating off of some shoddily constructed DIY supports. Good luck with that!

We've talked about expanding our search to the township, but I grew up in the middle of nowhere and prefer city living. I'll pay to have stores within walking distance of my house. If things don't work out in Ypsi, we'll probably end up in Detroit.

This sounds a lot like 714 Michigan Ave., across from the Ypsi Police station. Our realtor wouldn't even step foot in the house. After fumbling around on less than stable floors and stairs, and a 'push the door open and hold a defensive stance' approach to all of the bedrooms, we decided to not even venture into the silence of the lambs type basement.

Built in 1900 - and they wanted $95K! Another frankenstein that should be condemned.

We finally settled on a house in Ypsi Twsp. The City taxes were enough to keep us out of the area, to say the least.

Some fire would fix it. I thought the realtor was going to run out of there when we heard animals upstairs. She was hiding behind me while waiting to see by the flash.
